"Language of Truth" - The Way of the Workers and Friends
(U)
Unbeliever
Anyone not a "professing" member of "The Truth."
Understanding
Understanding falls into the category of the type that a horse has when it has blinders on its head. The focus that governs all understanding is the style of ministry, and meetings in homes. All else is seen as less important, if not a waste of time.
Union Meeting
One Sunday per month, two or three churches meet at a larger home than the usual one, and so fellowship in a larger group. These meetings are called "Union Meetings" (as in unified; they normally are not sympathetic to trade unions).
Unity
Unity is another lie that is continually preached by workers who know better.
There isn't even complete uniformity globally, and those workers who travel from country to country know this very well.
I give one example that I know of specifically. In Africa, blacks are separated from whites at the Conventions. The only agreement which actually exists is on the points of the style of ministry, and the house church.
- "In the world there is the Argument of the Trinity. The Catholics believe in One person. But Jesus said ÔThat they may be one as we are one.’ This was a number of people with one heart, mind and spirit to do one thing. There is one mind and heart of Father and Son and Spirit. It is important to have unity of heart and mind and spirit to do the will of God, as Jesus [did] the Father's will." (119b) (119b) Senior Worker, Post Falls Convention, 1989.
Unworthiness
The claim to be unworthy is a form of humility within this group which actually is a form of pride.
It is primarily related to not feeling worthy of being a member of "The Truth," which is the expected position (the "right attitude," "right spirit") and is stated more to gain points than being a true humble opinion of one's self. The idea is probably best seen and expressed by the fact that everyone knows full well that being a member of "The Truth" holds much suffering in store, yet every member sees it as "God's wonderful Way," where there is such "great joy" in perpetual misery. Members and workers talk of love, yet judge each other severely; they talk of freedom, while in bondage to the "unwritten law."
They claim to have no name yet call their church by several names; the mysteries abound within this church -- but then, the workers do claim "God's kingdom is a mystery, and God's kingdom is a secret." (120b) (120b) See Chapter Ten for full text.
Unwritten Law
- "Sometimes we say that in God's Kingdom there are no rules, no regulations, no forms or traditions, but if we have a proper understanding of God's Kingdom, we will find to our advantage and benefit, that God hasn't left us without some guiding influences to govern and to guide our lives. If this were not true, where would we be? Everyone would go by his own thinking. God gave us this new nature first of all, then an understanding that made us want to be under the new rule. The point is, are we willing to walk according to this rule." Senior Worker, Olympia Convention, 1957.
The "unwritten law" varies from the outrageous to the common sense things like children getting home at a reasonable hour each evening, expected attendance of all local meetings, and many other laws dealing with clothing style requirements etc. These laws are not only unwritten, but are unspoken in most cases, so that pinning the workers down on their lie that they inflict no laws or rules is very difficult to do.
Usurp Authority
Any taking upon one's self the authority that is held by the workers, or Head workers.
If one thinks that he or she knows better than a worker about a subject, that person is deemed to have tried to usurp authority. It is also referred to as "lusting in the heart" or "being presumptuous. "
The Head workers hold absolute authority over all members and subordinate workers: in actual fact, they are usurping the very authority of Jesus Christ.
