  (N)

New Testament Church (The)

A term describing the Two-by-Two system of ministry, and its supposedly unbroken continuity through the ages.

Nicolaitans

The doctrines of the Nicolaitans are implied to be the doctrines of the orthodox Church by workers. However, the followers of Edward Cooney today reject the Two-by-Two’s office of "Worker" on the following basis:

"Nicolaitanes: (Nikao=conqueror, laos=people) (conquerors of the people). A priestly order that afterwards became the clergy and changed a hitherto equal brotherhood into two classes i.e. priests and laity. Schofield states: 'There is no ancient authority for a sect of the Nicolaitanes. If the word is symbolic it refers to the earliest form of the notion of a priestly order or 'clergy,' which later divided an equal brotherhood (Matthew 23:8) into 'priests' and 'laity.' What in Ephesus was 'deeds' (Revelations 2:6) had become in Pergamos a 'doctrine.' (Revelations 2:15).'" Roberts.
