"Language of Truth" - The Way of the Workers and Friends

  (H)

Hades

Hell.

Harvest

The workers feel no shame in attending evangelist's "crusades" to spy out the new converts, so that they can later try to show them "the real truth, " and "harvest" these vulnerable people away from the denominational churches and into their own cult.

They are joyous when they find an embittered Christian from a denominational background, for then they can "harvest" again by damning the denominations.

The real word for the workers' type of harvest is "Proselytize. " The workers very seldom, if ever, "harvest" among people who know nothing about the Bible (they'll sometimes talk about going to regions "where the gospel had never been preached," but actually are merely stating that their workers had never previously preached their form of the "gospel" in that location). However, anyone they attempt to convert who has memorized or otherwise become very familiar with Scripture will find himself talking to the air in short order, whether or not they realize it. The workers look for the biblically illiterate, like themselves. They may listen to theology from those they feel might be converted to their "spiritualized" interpretation (especially if the focus is anywhere but on their own doctrines), but will walk away from any who are devoted to the study and doctrines of the Bible, or who wish to compare the doctrines of the Two-by-Twos with Scripture.

Head Worker

Overseer.

An elder worker responsible over a particular region. These exclusively male workers, are over all other workers within their respective regions. They rule supreme and at the same time say that there is no human hierarchy within "The Truth."

In other words, they LIE.

Heal

Healing from God is believed to relate only to "spiritual" healing. Physical healing terrorizes Two-by-Twos; as if all cases were the works of Satan.

Hearty

See "Zeal."

Heed

To pay attention to, and act upon; to obey.

This is what the members are expected to do with the advice and teachings of the workers, not Scripture.

Hell

A place of punishment for failing to adhere to the standards of the "right church," as delivered by its ministers.

"For the spirit and attitude you assume toward those that have made themselves poor, homeless, and strangers for
the gospel’s sake will ultimately determine where you will be in eternity." Jack Carroll, Manhattan Convention, October 4, 1945.

Hereafter

The life after death, in hell or in heaven depending on attitude toward, and membership in the "right church."

Condemnation to hell is the result of rejecting the message of the workers and their cult.

But, a heavenly reward does not simply result from accepting their message and church; it is also conditional upon one's best efforts to purge from one's life that which they hold to be sin.

Hierarchy

The workers will readily tell an inquirer that in their church there is no human hierarchy.

So, let's call it the chain of command, so as not to be too offensive. Starting at the bottom of the chain is the child, who is in subjection to every one older than himself. Then there are the women members, who are in subjection to their husbands, or other males. Next are male members, who are in subjection to the local elder. Then, the local elders, who are in subjection to the workers; male or female. The female workers are in subjection to male workers. Next, the male workers are in subjection to the (exclusively) male "Head workers. " Then there are the “Head workers, " who are in subjection to no man at all - and as you will see, they balk even at subjecting themselves to the authority of God or His Word.

And since Jesus is viewed as merely an "elder brother" (the "example preacher"), they themselves are in subjection only to their own concept of the gospel ministry.

Each of these levels of authority is subject to all other levels above themselves - the Head worker being the only exception. Age, too, plays a part in this chain of command: the younger worker being subject to the older. Authoritarian, Theocratic and even Despotic are good terms which describe this cult's much touted "non-hierarchy."

Hinder

To say, believe or do anything which displeases or disagrees with the workers. To be a "bad example."

History

Endless genealogies. This is to be avoided, and rebuked wherever identified. No importance whatsoever is placed upon human history, except where it seems to affirm the traditions and concocted pedigree of "The Truth" - or can be made to appear to do so.

Holy Ghost (Spirit)

God's spirit, the essence of God; a mystical force from God, comparable to a man's spirit, only much superior. Perhaps, even God's attitude!

Holy Water

One worker described for my father just what the Roman Catholics did to get their Holy Water. "They fill a pot, put it on the stove and boil the devil out of it." Roman Catholic beliefs and practices are often ridiculed using this sort of flippant sarcasm.

Homeless, Stranger Preachers for the Gospel's Sake

An ecclesiastical title for the workers. It seems impressive enough, but they do wear it thin (by repetitious use) when they refer to themselves, or the Apostles. They think that they are the only people on earth who abandon homes to go out preaching. Indeed they are strange, they preach a message that is strange to the Word of God and sometimes, too, they act weirdly.

As for the "Gospel's sake," they do not know what the Biblical Gospel is and, in its place, preach their own methodology.

Hope

A desire that something wished for will come about. But absolute assurance is not held for the "hope's" fulfillment. This is not the concept of "hope" presented in the Bible. A hope resting upon any promise of God is absolutely sure, based upon the fact that God cannot lie.

Therefore, the Christian's security rests on the character, promises, and attributes of God.

Humility

A simple expression of the Two-by-Two idea of humility is to say that it means "humiliation" - self-induced or continual self-condemnation, always apologizing for something in the presence of workers or Friends to impress them. Members often state how unworthy they feel to be part of this "fellowship," but it is difficult to reconcile this with the arrogance exhibited in their claim that salvation is impossible outside their "way." Humility in dress code is a law enforced through such things as stern glances, avoidance, and in rare cases, verbal rebuke or sarcasm.

So much care is taken to appear humble, it often ends up looking a lot like pride.
