The REAL Jesus Versus the Worker's Jesus

Jesus Christ said, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father but by me." (John 14:6 ).

These are not popular words in today's pluralistic culture. But then again, Jesus Christ was not seeking to win a popularity contest. He said it because He knew it was true. He backed up his claims by many miracles and by rising from the dead. Satan would have people believe that Christianity is a hate religion because it will not surrender its claim to be exclusively true.

The "Jesus" of the Cults

Why did Jesus come?

By J.M. - December 3, 2009

The following are 28 reasons given in scripture as to who Jesus was and why He came to earth.  They have been shortened for easy reading but are taken from the actual verses, which are referenced.  These need to be read carefully.

  • I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. [1]
  • I did come to call sinners, to repentance. [2]
  • I did come to bring a sword.  I have come to set a man against his father [3]
  • I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. [4]
  • Son of Man has come to save that which was lost. [5]
  • Son of Man did come to serve, and to give His life a ransom [6]
  • I must preach the kingdom of God this purpose I have been sent. [7]
  • Son of Man did come to save [them]  [8]
  • I came to send fire on the earth [9]
  • I came to give division. [10]
  • Son of Man has come to seek and to save [11]
  • God did send His Son that the world through Him might be saved. [12]
  • To do the will of Him who sent Me [13]
  • I do seek the will of the Father who sent Me. [14]
  • For I have come to do the will of Him who sent Me. [15]
  • The will of the Father I should lose nothing [16]
  • For judgment I have come into this world [17]
  • I have come that they may have life [18]
  • I have come [as] a light into the world [19]
  • I did come to save the world. [20]
  • God sent Him to bless you [21]
  • He condemned sin in the flesh [22]
  • Christ died and rose and lived again [23]
  • God sent forth His Son to redeem [24]
  • Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. [25]
  • God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. [26]
  • God sent His Son [to be] the propitiation for our sins. [27]
  • Father has sent the Son [as] Savior of the world. [28]

Now, having read this list, let us review a few statements from workers as to why Jesus came.

Andrew Abernathy - God is so anxious that men and women would understand perfectly what Truth is all about that He sent His Son, and for 33 and a half years He lived to show us what Truth is.

Dan Hilton - Christ is the imported standard from heaven.  [Moscow ID 1971]

Lyle Vankeuren - Jesus suffered for us that we should follow His steps. [Ronan MT Conv 1973]

Harry Holland - God is supreme. He and the Son planned Jesus' coming. If the blood was all that was needed, then Jesus could have died as a baby. It is the manner of His life that we need to see.

Edna Powell
- Christ has shown us how to conform ourselves to the image of God. We try to conform ourselves to the image of God. [Glen Valley BC Canada Conv 8/15/88]

Jack Carroll - "Why did Christ shed His blood on Calvary?" Here is one answer at least; He died so that the power of this present world would be broken in your life, that you wouldn't follow its fashions, its customs, but that you would live your life with eternities' values in view.  [Oakland, CA Sp Mtg 1946]

John Beth - Oftentimes we come into contact with people of the world today who feel the blood of Christ is going to make atonement for everything. If all Jesus was to do was shed His blood, He could have done that in a very short time; but He had a work to do even before He shed His blood. He spent something like 33-1/2 years giving His life to make plain and clear to this world once and for all what was Truth, and what was right and acceptable in the sight of God.  [1968]

Jack Carroll - God's people are not a sect or denomination or a creed. God's people are His children, His family. God is our Father; Jesus is our Elder Brother and we are brethren.  [Bakersfield CA Conv 9/33]

Will Thompson - The words that came from the lips of Jesus in His youth expressed the purpose for which He had come into the world. He had come that He might reveal the one mind of God, the Heavenly Father and the one Way to His Heavenly Father. Everything that Jesus did spoke of that One Fellowship.  [Funeral of Joe Brown Medford OR 1978]

Fred Allen - Christ had a human nature, too. He was a man...God is our Father and Jesus is our elder brother...When Jesus died, the temple wall was rent in two. The way into the holiest was made open for us. In the O.T. they had to go through the High Priest to get into the presence of God, yet we have a new and living way. We can present our bodies as a living sacrifice. God had arranged this from the very beginning. Now it is revealed through the sacrifice of Jesus on Calvary's cross. He was sealing it and willing to do it. [Post Falls ID Conv 1989]

Howard Mooney - We believe in the divinity of Christ but we believe also that the Way He represented is the true Way from earth to heaven. Believe this and be willing to separate from all else and adhere to that Way. We have life through believing in His name. [Saginaw OR 1981]

Reuben Bennett - Jesus bore the cross to teach us how we can take up our cross and follow in the footsteps of Him who trod the way before us.  [Funeral of Malcolm Graham Olympia WA 1964]

Tharold Sylvester
- The religious world puts emphasis on (the) death of Christ. God would have allowed Jesus to be slain by Herod as a baby if that were true. The Lord wanted to show us His life, how to live, to serve, to love, invest time. [ Devon MT June 25 1978]

The workers preach that Jesus came to show us the way and how to walk.  They preach that Jesus is our elder brother, and it is His manner we must follow.  This is necessary to establish “the way” as the one Jesus showed us.  Thus, they make it “the only way”.

However, what the workers preach is very different from what the scriptures say.

Compare the referenced verses to the worker's statements.  Don’t let me convince you, let the scriptures convict you.  Search and see if you can find in the scriptures “the Jesus” that is preached by the workers.
