HOME SCHOOLING
I had decided to home school our boys. The workers we had at the time and some "friends" said that it showed my lack of faith in God. They had absolutely no problem with having kids in a public school with all the ungodly things they teach, but as far as homeschooling or Christian school (which we had considered) they thought it was not good. When I showed them some of the books we were planning on using, they were not impressed that they were from a Christian publisher and said, "You have to watch these and be very careful because their beliefs are not right. They are from the 'world'." -- that their subtlety was dangerous and that I might not be strong enough to see it. I now know that they realized they were loosing me fast, and I might see the light if I read real Christian materials. God is good! He gave me a strong conviction about homeschooling, and through it I was liberated.
I think that since my exit the workers have been pretty careful not to criticize homeschooling because I think they realized that was the initial cause of us waking up and leaving and they don't want to step on anyone else's toes and have the same experience.
There are some very hearty 2x2s who are homeschooling whom the workers don't want to alienate.
I believe that the workers who were outspoken against us for homeschooling took that position because they sensed that we were beginning to grow in our Biblical understanding.
They correctly perceived it to be a direct threat to their doctrines, status and security. Our testimonies unwittingly reflected that we had new conviction about scripture and were aware of the true meaning of scripture which the workers commonly allegorized. Also, we were becoming closely acquainted with real Christians and attending home school seminars put on by Christian home school leaders. We had begun to realize the true meaning of "worldliness" was not about appearance but about world view, or attitudes and ethics which spring from a belief in God as Creator, Sustainer and Saviour, rather than man as the center of the universe and the measure and decision maker about what is right and wrong. True worldliness is secularism or the secular world view which is the conclusion of atheism. Workers claim to be the only ones with a true knowledge of the Bible, but strangely enough their world view is usually secular.
It was becoming clear to us that the workers weren't Christian in the way they perceived earthly reality, but at the time we were still totally blind to their errors so we weren't really focused on what was wrong with their beliefs. At first we were only aware of our own previous ignorance of scripture and so we were just excited about God and His Word. It didn't occur to us to question the workers' beliefs until they begin to preach at us in meeting that "Wisdom is good but Knowledge is bad!" "Knowledge destroys Faith!" and other such garbage! We didn't understand why they were on our case, but it was very obvious that they didn't like us becoming so interested in understanding the Bible. That made us very suspicious and ultimately lead to us leaving the group.
Praise the Lord!
